Collection: Tulip Vases, Delft Blue

Tulip vases

Tulip vases are a popular Delft Blue gift. Through the separate openings the flowers look nice and the vase is a real showpiece. In the past the vase was not only meant to present flowers or tulips, but also as a decorative piece.

Tulips were introduced in the Netherlands at the end of the 16th century; the bulbs came from Turkey, and became a very expensive, fashionable flower. At the peak of the "tulip mania" in february 1637, a canal house in Amsterdam was cheaper as a tulip bulb. Such an expensive flower needs to be presented in a nice vase that displays every tulip on its own. With the tulip vase people showed that they were prosperous. It was therefore known as a status symbol.
